Prior Day Recap — Wednesday, August 26, 2026

The Dow snapped its three-day win streak, losing 113.52 points (-0.21%) to close at 53,463.88 on cash-index data (day's range 53,379.40–53,639.75). The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were essentially flat (-0.02% / -0.08%), with a mixed, choppy session as the market digested a slightly hot core PCE reading (3.3% y/y, in line, but the headline annual number ran a touch warm) and positioned ahead of Nvidia's after-the-close earnings. Meta rallied on news of a ~$16.7B social-media litigation settlement; Intuit sank 11% on weak FY27 guidance.

The dominant story into today's open is Nvidia's earnings beat after Wednesday's close — strong Q2 results plus a bullish FY28 sales outlook from CFO Colette Kress eased fears that AI capex growth was decelerating. NVDA is up ~6-7% premarket, with Salesforce (+11%) and CrowdStrike also posting strong beats, and reports that Nvidia agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9B are adding to the AI-infrastructure narrative. That's translating into a clearly tech-led futures tape: Nasdaq-100 futures are up roughly 0.9-1%, S&P futures +0.4-0.5%, while Dow futures are only modestly higher (+0.2%) to flat — the Dow's more value/industrial composition means it's participating far less in this specific rally than its tech-heavy peers.

Counter-trend Short — If price fails at the pivot on a retest (rejection back below ~53,480–53,494), that's your counter-trend scalp back toward the 53,378 low, especially given the Dow's relative underperformance versus tech today.

27-Minute Swing Magnitude Forecast

Using the trailing 10-session cash-index ATR (avg ≈ 345 points) scaled by √(27/390):

345 × √(27/390) ≈ 91 points

Plan for ~85–95 point average swings per 27-minute cycle today. Expect above-average volatility in the first cycle or two off the open as the market fully prices the Nvidia reaction and sorts out the Dow's relative laggard status versus the Nasdaq, then likely compression into midday ahead of any Jackson Hole headlines later in the week.
