Day-Trading Scenarios for Jan 14, 2026

Our patience paid off yesterday, where early morning shorts got out downside targets of 49377 at 3:10PM

50,000 might have to wait a while. First support this morning is 49199 then 48980. Resistance is 49412.

Bank Earnings Pressure and Sector Rotation Dynamics JPMorgan Chase (JPM) kicked off Q4 earnings with mixed results: profits and net interest income beat estimates, but revenue missed, contributing to a slide in bank stocks. This weighed heavily on the Dow (which has significant financial weighting) and broader financial sector sentiment. Amid ongoing sector rotation—where value/industrials have outperformed tech/AI names recently—the blue-chip heavy Dow showed more pronounced weakness than the Nasdaq (boosted by upgrades in Intel and AMD, up ~7% each in some sessions).

Broader Caution and Profit-Taking After setting fresh all-time highs in recent sessions (Dow closed around 49,590 yesterday), some natural profit-taking emerged in a "wait-and-see" mode. Markets are digesting a barrage of crosscurrents, including ongoing DOJ probe concerns around Fed independence (though largely shaken off earlier), potential policy volatility from administration proposals (e.g., tariffs, credit card rate caps), and upcoming earnings from other major banks. Delta Air Lines (DAL) also weighed on sentiment with a disappointing 2026 profit outlook, adding to cyclical/consumer discretionary pressure.

Positive Drivers:

·       Recent U.S. economic data (e.g., strong nonfarm payrolls, CPI reports) supported record highs in late 2025, with tech offsetting Fed worries. January seasonality often favors bulls, and lower oil prices amid recent events could ease input costs for sectors like airlines and data centers, boosting margins.
