Day-Trading Scenarios for Jan 20, 2026

All three trend elements are down. Only the daily trend has not yet issued a sell signal.
It very well could. Yesterday we suggested that 48055 was even greater support that would trigger down trends for this year. We will be watching. Meanwhile we short rallies.
First resistance = 48999 then 49062. Good support begins at 48767.
The outlook this morning is decisively bearish in the near term, driven by renewed geopolitical and trade tensions. President Trump's renewed threats of 10% tariffs (escalating to 25% later) on imports from eight European/NATO countries (including Denmark, France, Germany, UK, etc.)—tied to demands for U.S. control or purchase of Greenland—have triggered widespread risk aversion.
Markets returned from the U.S. MLK holiday to this development, with futures plunging as Europe signals unified, proportional retaliation (potentially via anti-coercion tools or tariffs worth billions). This has fueled safe-haven buying (gold at records) and equity selling across U.S. and European indices.
Overall, expect continued volatility and downside pressure unless diplomatic de-escalation emerges quickly. Medium-term support remains from strong U.S. corporate earnings and policy expectations, but trade-war fears dominate for now. Stay nimble—thin holiday-return volume can exaggerate moves.
