Day-Trading Scenarios for Sep 1, 2026

2 min read

There are 101 shopping days until Christmas. The short market is gifting us now.

All three trends are down so we look to short 231 point rallies.

Prior Day Recap — Monday, August 31, 2026

The Dow fell sharply, down 374.09 points (-0.7%) to 53,185.90, on the last trading day of August, after the U.S. struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island and Tehran retaliated with strikes on U.S. bases in Jordan and the UAE. Crude oil jumped over 3%, Treasury yields rose (10-year +3.4bp to 4.75%, nearing 4.77% intraday), and September rate-hike odds climbed to roughly 60% ahead of Friday's August jobs report. Goldman Sachs and Alphabet led the losses; Chevron was one of the few gainers on the oil spike. Despite the drop, the Dow still closed out August with a monthly gain of roughly 1.3-2.1%, its fifth straight positive month — though the index is now about 2.7% off its August 5 record high of ~54,750, with a pattern of lower highs since then.

Worth flagging: today is the first trading day of September, and per market seasonality trackers, the S&P has fallen on the first trading day of Labor Day week nine years running — not a reason to fight the tape on its own, but consistent with the generally cautious, higher-yield backdrop already in place.

Trade Ideas

With-trend Short #1 — Fade any bounce that stalls below the pivot (53,351) on the 15-min chart, 5-MA holding below the 20-MA; target back toward yesterday's low (53,149).

With-trend Short #2 — Breakdown continuation below current levels (52,932) if the 60-min trend confirms fresh lower-lows; target a measured move toward 52,650–52,700 (roughly the range extension off yesterday's 515-point swing).

Counter-trend Long — Scalp bounce off current levels given how extended price already is below pivot (420+ points) — oversold/short-covering setups are more probable this far from fair value, especially on any de-escalation headline out of the Middle East; target back toward 53,149–53,200 with a tight stop below 52,900.

27-Minute Swing Magnitude Forecast for scalpers

Using the trailing five actual YM daily ranges (371, 343, 442, 349, 515 → avg ≈ 404 points), scaled by √(27/390):

404 × √(27/390) ≈ 106 points
