Narrow range to start the day. 2 of 3 down.

Prior Trading Day Recap (Wednesday, September 23)

The Dow fell 352.10 points (-0.68%) to close at 51,511.59, as the 10-year Treasury yield spiked to 5.11%-5.13% — its highest level since 2007 — after September flash PMI data showed business activity accelerating at its fastest pace in five years, with hot input/output price readings fueling fears of another Fed hike. The S&P 500 dropped 0.75% to 7,706.03 and the Nasdaq fell 1.13% to 26,936.04, snapping its recent record-setting streak as rate-sensitive growth names led the retreat. Utilities and consumer discretionary each shed over 1%, and over 72% of U.S. issues declined on the session. YM futures traded the 527-point range implied by today's pivot inputs (High 52371 / Low 51844), settling at 51873 — near the low end of the range as selling pressure built into the close.

Fundamental Picture

Futures are extending Wednesday's weakness into Thursday morning, with Dow E-minis down roughly 0.3%-0.4% as the 30-year Treasury yield pushes to a fresh multi-decade high and oil climbs back above $100/barrel on renewed Middle East uncertainty — a combination that squeezes both borrowing costs and margins simultaneously. All eyes are on today's Trump-Xi summit in Washington, where AI regulation, the Middle East conflict, and Taiwan are expected to dominate the agenda; Treasury Secretary Bessent confirmed Wednesday that the U.S. and China have agreed to extend their trade truce through January 10, which offers some floor under sentiment even as markets stay defensive into the meeting. With yields at levels not seen in nearly two decades, the market's tolerance for further hawkish surprises is thin — any constructive summit headlines on trade or tariffs could spark a relief bounce, but continued oil/yield pressure without offsetting good news from the summit would likely extend the pullback from this week's records.

Technical Picture

Daily Pivot: (52371 + 51844 + 51873) / 3 = 52,029.33

Current price of 51770 is trading ~259 points below pivot, continuing the bearish drift that began Tuesday — pivot (52,029) sits well overhead as resistance, with the overnight low near 51,770 itself as the immediate reference and Wednesday's low (51,844) as an intermediate level in between.

Trend Read (60-min / 15-min, 5 & 20 period MA crossover): With price extending below pivot for a second consecutive session, expect the 5-period MA to remain below the 20-period on both the 60-minute and 15-minute charts — a bearish alignment on both timeframes. As long as price holds below pivot (52,029) on rallies, the trend bias favors shorts; only a reclaim and hold above pivot would signal the three-day pullback is stabilizing.

27-Minute Swing Cycle Forecast: Wednesday's 527-point range is a moderate reading, though today's session carries elevated event risk from the Trump-Xi summit and ongoing yield volatility. Against ~14 cycles per RTH session, the expected swing magnitude per 27-minute cycle works out to roughly 35–40 points under normal conditions — but be prepared for a materially larger cycle around any summit headline, given the market's current sensitivity to trade/AI-policy news.

Trade Setups

1. Trend — Short on Pivot Rejection

If price rallies back into the 51,990–52,050 pivot zone and the 15-minute 5/20 MA alignment stays bearish, look to sell the retest. Target: overnight low area (51,770), scaling out using the ~37-point cycle magnitude rather than holding for the full move.

2. Trend — Short Breakdown Continuation

If price breaks and holds below 51,770, look for a continuation short on the next 27-minute cycle pullback into resistance rather than chasing the initial break. Target extension: 51,770 − ~37 points ≈ 51,725–51,735 as an initial objective.

3. Counter-Trend — Fade Extension Back Toward Pivot

If a single 27-minute cycle (particularly around Trump-Xi summit headlines) pushes 70+ points in either direction without pausing, consider a long scalp back toward pivot (52,029) as a mean-reversion trade — smaller size, tight management, since it runs counter to the dominant bearish bias and headline risk can reverse sentiment abruptly today.
