Fed announcement tomorrow.
Market overbought yet not easy to find short trades. We stick with trend until it changes. Buy pullbacks.
The Dow surged 468 points (+0.92%) to a record close of 51,671.03, also hitting a new all-time intraday high during the session. The catalyst was a big fundamental one — President Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran had reached a peace agreement, sending the Dow jumping as much as 700 points intraday. Oil cratered on the news, with front-month WTI crude tumbling nearly 5% to $80.75 per barrel — its lowest settlement since early March.
The market is now in a holding pattern for a much bigger event. The FOMC begins its two-day June meeting today — Kevin Warsh's first as Fed Chair — with the rate decision and updated dot plot dropping Wednesday at 2pm ET, followed by his press conference.
The Fed faces a complicated backdrop: inflation has been running hotter than expected as the Iran conflict drove energy prices higher. Many on Wall Street expect a shift toward rate hikes in the dot plot this year. Markets have priced in roughly 65% odds that rates hold at 3.50%–3.75% through year-end.
