Day-Trading Scenarios for May 18, 2026

Wide swinging range to start the week. Traders nervous after Friday reversal. SMF has pumped up to 233.

Look for market to move up and down in a few 233 point ranges today. Your job is to catch just one or two.

  • Bias: Short-term neutral-to-cautious after Friday’s reversal. The broader uptrend remains intact above ~48,800–49,000, but momentum has cooled and overbought conditions from the mid-week rally suggest consolidation or further digestion. Watch for reaction around the 50k psychological level.

  • Indicators: Daily charts show potential for a pullback or range-bound trade. Volatility may pick up on any headline flow (geopolitics, oil, yields).

Fed Transition: Kevin Warsh officially took over as Fed Chair on Friday (May 15). Markets will be watching for any early signals on policy, though major focus shifts to FOMC minutes later this week.

We start with a narrow range. This means the market, including the institutions, are confused as to the next move. This tells us to be patient, wait for the break, then get aboard. We are overbought.
