Day-Trading Scenarios for May 29, 2026

Sleepy market to start.

Buyers want it lower to go long; Bears want it higher to go short. Only scalp traders don't care.

All week, the market has had sharp moves down at least 200 points and then the follow-through buying. Expect no difference today.

The cash Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 50,668.97, up about +24.69 points from the prior close (roughly +0.05%). It traded in a range roughly between 50,314 and 50,764.

  • The session was relatively quiet and mixed. The Dow showed limited upside after recent record highs, with some rotation and profit-taking evident. Broader market action saw the S&P 500 and Nasdaq trading near records but with modest or slightly negative moves in spots.

  • YM futures settled around 50,743.

Overall bias remains bullish near all-time highs, though the market is extended and due for some consolidation or mild pullback risk.

  • YM is hovering near the 50,600–50,800 zone.

  • Many technical indicators (moving averages, etc.) continue to show Strong Buy signals on daily timeframes.

  • Key levels:

    • Resistance: 50,900 – 51,000 (psychological and recent highs).

    • Support: 50,400 – 50,500, then the major 50,000 round number.

  • Momentum is positive, but negative RSI divergences have been noted in recent sessions, suggesting possible short-term exhaustion. A clean break above 51,000 would strengthen the uptrend significantly. Watch for holiday-weekend positioning flows.

  • Earnings momentum and AI/tech optimism continue as tailwinds, with broadening participation into Dow components noted.

  • Valuations are elevated; any surprise on trade/inventory data or Fed commentary could spark volatility.

Trading note for YM today: Expect relatively light volume and cautious trading into the weekend. Lower oil is generally supportive for the Dow, but watch for rotation and position squaring. Use tight risk management near these highs.
