Day-Trading Scenarios for Oct 21, 2026
YM Morning Report — Wednesday, October 21, 2026
Prior Session Recap (Tuesday, Oct 20)
YM made its session low of 52072 at 8:38 ET in the pre-market and opened the day session at 52207. A quick flush to 52135 in the first minute ran the sell stops. Buyers then took over: YM rallied to 52645 by 10:00 and reached the session high of 52920 at 10:55 ET, a 785-point run off the opening low. The afternoon held a 52650–52780 range, and YM settled at 52719, more than 600 points above the low.
The cash Dow gained about 1% to 52,494.88, with 22 of its 30 stocks higher, led by a 5.8% jump in 3M after an earnings beat. The S&P 500 added 0.3% and the Nasdaq finished flat.
Overnight, YM dipped to the London low of 52620 at 5:02 ET and then climbed 368 points to a new high of 52988 at 9:07. It is now at 52970, about 250 points above the settle.
Fundamental Picture
The rotation into the Dow continued Tuesday. Strong quarterly earnings from industrials like 3M lifted the blue chips while tech heavyweights held the Nasdaq flat. A 1.8% drop in WTI to about $101.79 also helped. This morning SpaceX is up more than 8% premarket after a stronger-than-expected profit, and Elon Musk said SpaceX and Tesla have formed special committees to discuss a possible merger, though he downplayed a quick deal. Netflix is down more than 6% after cutting its ad-sales guidance, even though it beat on profit. European markets are higher.
The risks are oil and tonight’s earnings. Brent is back above $110 on renewed Iran and Strait of Hormuz concerns. Meta and Tesla report after the close, so expect position-squaring into the afternoon. With stocks near record highs despite elevated inflation and rates, the market is relying on earnings to justify valuations. So far earnings are delivering, and YM is leading.

Reference Price
Overnight high 52988
Tuesday high 52920
15-minute 20 SMA ≈52761
London low 52620
60-minute chart: The 5 SMA (≈52821) is above the 20 SMA (≈52749). Trend is up.
15-minute chart: The 5 SMA (≈52896) is above the 20 SMA (≈52761), and the gap between them is widening. Trend is up.
Bias: Both timeframes are aligned up and price is 400 points above the pivot, so the primary bias is long on pullbacks. London traders are long from 52620 and sitting on a 368-point gain. As they take profits near the NY open, and as the opening stop-run plays out, an early dip toward 52800–52920 is likely before the uptrend resumes. R1 at 53068 is the first overhead target. If YM loses the 15-minute 20 SMA near 52760, the bullish read is off.
Trade Plan
Stops stay within 50 points. Management: once a trade is 50 points in profit, move the stop to breakeven, then trail it.
With-trend #1: retest of Tuesday’s high. Buy the first pullback into 52905–52920, the old high now acting as support, when the 1-minute stochastic turns up from below 20.
Entry: 52910
Stop: 52860
Target 1: 53068 (R1)
Target 2: 53180 (one full Swing Magnitude Factor off the pullback)
With-trend #2: deeper stop-run long. If the open flushes harder, buy 52810–52820, where the 60-minute 5 SMA sits and London’s profit-taking would run out.
Entry: 52815
Stop: 52765
Target 1: 52970
Target 2: 53085 (one full SMF off the low, right at R1)
Counter-trend: R1 fade short. If YM tags R1 at 53060–53070, short when the 1-minute stochastic is above 80 and turning down, for the typical ~70-point counter-trend pullback.
Entry: 53065
Stop: 53115
Target 1: 52995
Target 2: 52925
Swing Magnitude Factor Forecast (9:30–10:00 ET range)
Forecast: 270 points
The normal opening range over the last 10 sessions is 246 points. Pre-open activity this morning is running at 140% of normal, the busiest in several sessions, so the forecast is above normal.
Measured-move targets:
If the opening stop-run bottoms near 52800–52815, one full 270-point swing up projects to 53070–53085, matching R1.
If London profit-taking runs deeper, back toward its 52620 starting point, treat it as a warning sign rather than a buying opportunity.
